The thing I miss most about Idaho is our back yard that we turned from nothing into an oasis of flowers, fruit trees and an awesome vegetable garden. We worked hard for the 2 1/2 yrs we lived there and sure was difficult saying goodbye. But, with everything in life, there is change. Our new home in TN will bring more change - cant wait to see what it has in store for us!

Pear Pin Cushion
Was thumbing thru some old quilting magazines for more inspiration and found the cutest vintage pear pincushions. Of course there was no pattern, it was the kinda thing you had to send away and pay for the pattern. No thanks. Instead, I came up with my own pattern - hey in quilting, sometimes thats what you gotta do! Heres the finished product... what do you think?

Carmens teething
Carmen just got her 2nd tooth last week. She is officially "teething" and she lets us know it! The past few days her schedule is off-whack. She still sleeps thru the nite, but during the day she doesnt eat as much as she used to and shes cranky. Oh joy! Today I put her down for an afternoon nap and her eyes were closed before she was even down. Poor little mite!

Fabric Box
So I was in Hobby Lobby yesterday thumbing thru all the new quilting magazines and came across the niftiest idea for a fabric box. I bought the magazine and got started on my new project as soon as I got home. The directions stated that the pattern was rated "easy." Yeah right, easy for who? 4 hrs later and lots of under-my-breath muttering I came up with this. Pretty cute if I do say so, and Im sure I will be making several more since this one is overflowing with junk already. Hah!

Why quilt?
Someone once asked me why I make quilts and other small projects only to stuff them away in cupboards, closets, armoires, boxes and baskets. Well I think this quote says it all...
"We need handmade to balance the mind-numbingly similar machine-made things around us, things that can only express the efficiency and speed with which they were produced. Craft makes our homes more human. We sense the time, care, and skill that went into the making. Resembling life, in its slow accumulation of experience, a crafted piece is an expression of the daily moods of the maker during its creation. It speaks of the concentration and love with which the object was made. It can be sensuous, intricate, full of sentiment- and imperfect. It carries the imprint of the hands that made it."

Birdhouse Quilt
I just finished up a cute Birdhouse Quilt for my Mother-In-Law. Its a way of thanking her for coming out to Tennessee from Colorado to help out with Carmen while my neck is still healing. It also doubles as a birthday gift. The quilt top is off getting quilted and I should be receiving it back any day now.
